The Republic of Azerbaijan (Azerbaijan: Azərbaycan Respublikası), referred to as Azerbaijan (Azerbaijan: Azərbaycan), the country name means “the country of fire” and is the “crossroads” of Eastern Europe and West Asia. The shoreline is 456 kilometers long. Nakhichevan in the southwest is not adjacent to the mainland.

The successful development of Caspian oil and gas has promoted the rapid development of Azerbaijan's economy and society.
